The Flow of Time

Bronze, 11" x 8" x 5" (28 x 20 x 13 cm) for real size wing span of 72" (183 cm)

The proposed project "The Four Winds, the Flow of Time" consists of four large-scale bronze forms [wingspan of 72”(183cm)],all cast from one mold, that are resting on a base of polished, pigmented cement, cast in the shape of a directional spill.
The four shell-like forms are worked after fossilized shells, Brachiopods, marine organisms that are to be found in variations all over North America. The sculptures are scaled towards the human body and become big, round organs, hollow bodies that encounter sound, air and wind movement.

The four sculptures will have holes cut out through the thin layer of Bronze (7mm) so that they take on the presence of a bell, a symbol of creative power, yet grounded, they become more like a belly, where symbolically spirit takes form in a natural cycle of metamorphosis.
"The Four Winds, the Flow of Time" signifies a spiritual moment of recognition, as well as the ephemeral quality of such a moment that is part of a constant quest of understanding the world we live in, of trying to reconcile the symbiosis of man and earth.
"The Four Winds, the Flow of Time" reflects on many levels a presence as a "living laboratory". Fossils are rescaled so that they become "winged creatures", bells, organs, shaped through molten metal into solid, yet "breathing" form. They embrace the concept of time and evolution, memory stored into form. As hollow bodies they are funnels, mediums that talk about a creative potential. Their presence reminds you of the inherent binary elements of the womb as the place for transformation, the bell as the spirit of creative power, of our own breathing presence.
